A Qualified Leader

See why I’ll make an excellent complement to the Board of Selectmen in Norwood on Monday, January 3rd, 2022:

business minded

Budgets, financial forecasting, vendor shopping, people management, and revenue generation are all part of my day-to-day in my professional time over the last 15 years. I’m also no stranger to public speaking engagements. You need a Selectman who’s comfortable appearing in public, and who isn’t intimidated by the serious and detailed business matters of the Town.

tech savVy

Since the Board of Selectmen also function as the Light Commissioners, you need someone who can keep up with our Municipal Power and Internet Company. I’ve researched Power Companies and Energy Markets for several years. I’m part of a local energy study, but I volunteered because it’s all so fascinating! I am heavily involved with digital technologies and regulations due to my career, though it’s always been my forte (my first job when I was 16? Web developer, after teaching myself html. And this was back when you had to write it by hand in a txt file and wrangle the site hosting directly, whew! People have it so easy today with their out-of-the-box web kit hosting solutions. But I digress…)

transparent

I’m a firm believer that in order to have a functional democracy, you need transparency. Open Meeting Laws exist for a reason. The Right of Free Petition exists for a reason. It’s why I make my Town Meeting votes available to view on my website even though I’m not required to. You need a Selectman who values having residents engaged in the Town, who wants residents to feel like they understand what is going on and why, and who only uses Executive Session when it’s critical to protecting the Town from being exploited.

experienced in civics

An extraordinary amount of my spare time is eagerly spent on civic engagement at every level. I was nominated by Senator Rush for the Statehouse Senate’s CLS. The Norwood LWV nominated me to serve on their Board of Directors. The Town Moderator selected me to represent District 7 on the Rules Committee. I take frequent trips to DC to visit Federal reps or renew my Library of Congress card. And I love every minute of it. I think I’m the only civics nerd who could perhaps rival the General Manager in excitement for democracy. Selectman is an involved role, so you need someone who finds every bit of civics fascinating, important, and delightful … like me!

dedicated

I’ve been blessed with a flexible schedule that gives me free time to engage in civic pursuits. I have a near perfect attendance record for all my Town Meeting and Committee Meeting obligations (including the bonus informational seminars). Norwood is a busy town, you need a Selectman who has the time to give it proper attention and who LIKES going.

thaitempleingermany.jpg

worldly

My career has allowed me to travel overseas, and I’ve studied multiple languages for no reason other than the joy of learning (Italiano and Deutsch are the main ones, but even just looking into the basics of ภาษาไทย and हिन्दी and 官話 gave me a lot of great insights)! Even though I’m not (yet) conversational, I have a great grasp of how languages are structured. Norwood has a rich blend of people and business owners. You need a Selectman who grasps the nuances of localization and cultures.

data driven

I keep a balance between the big picture and the details that can make or break a decision. I understand concepts like null hypothesis testing, game theory, linear regressions, variance, and confidence intervals. Selectmen have to review a lot of reports and proposals; you need someone who can spot underlying errors that could mar an otherwise great plan.

loyal to norwood

I know I can never be a true “townie” since I wasn’t born here, but Norwood is my forever home now. I’ve called Norwood home since 2007. It’s important to have a Selectman who values the Town and its residents, not just the role.

Resourceful

This campaign was built by just me, and is supported by volunteers after I launch it. I have no campaign manager, no technical staff, no political party, no contractors, no web developers, nor PR representatives. I only have a Treasurer because I’m required to by law. I used the skills I have, and taught myself anything else I need. I’ve pivoted to respond to an unexpected Election in the middle of a holiday season, with a much shorter time table than usual, and I’m ready to tackle it! Selectmen have to make decisions in an ever-evolving landscape. You need someone who can adapt, problem solve, and learn fast.
